Recital Series 10: Performance Etiquette

5/6/2017

Dance recitals are a BIG DEAL! It is exciting for all performers, as well as their parents and families to see them perform on the big stage! In order for all audience members to have the most enjoyable experience, here are some tips on how the audience should conduct themselves:
  • Arrive on time, better yet, a few minutes early. The show will start on time and you will want to find your seats before the lights go down to avoid stepping on as few feet as possible down the aisles.
  • Do not get out of your seat while there are dancers on the stage. You will be blocking the view of everyone behind you and the relatives of the dancers on the stage will not be happy.
  • Keep your phone put away. The auditorium will be dark like a movie theater and the lights on your phone are a distraction to those around you. Every family will receive a DVD of the performance, so there is no need to film during the show.
  • Clap for all the dancers! Not every dance will be your favorite, but the dancers all worked hard and deserve a healthy applause from the audience!
  • At the end of the show there will be a finale, or curtain call where all of the dancers will return to the stage for final bows. Feel free to hoot and holler at this time! Then the dancers will return to the dressing rooms where you can pick them up and take them out for ice cream!
Enjoy the recital!

Though I am not a dancer, I have to take note of this. I have experienced this before; being a stage fright plays a huge part of my personality and I wanted to overcome it even before. Perhaps, taking notes of the list that you made will give me more confidence. Dance recital is one of the most exciting way especially if you are into dancing. It would be the perfect time to showcase what you've got that's why the pressure must be carried well! I know that everyone can pull it off, we just have to know how to handle this situation!
