Many recital costumes will be delivered the week following spring break! Instructors will ensure the proper fit for each student before sending them home. While it is exciting to bring home a beautiful costume, we need your help to make sure the costume is in tip-top shape for pictures and recital day! Here are some instructions on how to care for your costume once it has been taken home:

Traveling Tutus is based out of Florida, and sends the donations to children around the world so they may experience the joy of dance that we get to experience each week at the studio! This past Saturday, the teams sorted the donations, bundled the dance shoes and packed up five large boxes of donations that are now on their way to Florida! Great job dancers!
Just over a week ago, seven Dance Arts Academy staff members took a drive up Highway 55 and spent a couple days in a cabin in Garden Valley, ID. We enjoyed relaxing, (laughing a lot), planning and brainstorming about the joys of teaching dance- the greatest profession!
One of the things we discussed in detail was our Studio Values. These values are not new to DAA, but we had never sat down and listed them or talked about what they meant to us. It was an incredible exercise for us to focus on the importance of these values and our responsibility to demonstrate them and pass them on to our students. In a unanimous decision, we declared the Top 5 DAA Studio Values to be:
Have you ever wondered how our dance studio puts all the pieces together and makes it all work for so many students and families? Or why costumes are ordered in January when the show isn't until June? If you've always had a question, now is your chance to ask it! It doesn't matter how simple or complex your question is, I want to answer it for you! Submit your questions and I will answer them in this new blog series, "Behind the Glitter!"
Many of my students and parents may not be aware of my daughter's story, as I try to be careful not to cross business and personal lines at the studio, but I am feeling compelled to share for the sake of my daughter, Kalli. She has undergone one surgery already and has the second scheduled for December 9th for her to have a new smile.
She was born at 24 weeks gestation weighing only one pound, five ounces and spent 123 days in the NICU. During her stay in the NICU, she suffered a stroke and lost all muscle tone in the left side of her face, leaving her with a one-sided smile. She has always asked why her smile was different and would she smile like us when she grows up, or why does her little brother have a big smile and she doesn't. It was heart-breaking to hear that she didn't like her smile and we didn't have a way to help. Last winter we were referred to a doctor in California who has helped other people with similar conditions as Kalli and we met with him via Skype in February. He was very optimistic that he could help Kalli and we started fundraising to cover the cost of the procedures, as insurance will not cover much of the expense. We are now in the second stage of fundraising as we prepare for surgery again and we are truly grateful for all of the support, prayers and donations! If you feel compelled to help- thank you very much -this is a gift that will last a lifetime! During my annual office clean-out, I found these endearing pieces of artwork from a couple of my students! Had to share! (yes, one of them is written to Mrs. Bobbee- which is close enough to Dotty :) If I didn't have dance in my life I would feel like a part of me is missing. Some people may think dance is just movement to the sound of music, but to me it allows my body to express meaning. I am so grateful that this is one of the talents God has given me. After a long day at school, dance allows me to let go and just be me. At home I like to turn up the music and dance for fun. Dancing makes me feel good. What I love about dance is that anyone can do it if they have the passion for it. If a person is determined they can achieve anything.
I am looking forward to going to the camp in Twin Falls this summer because I think it will help me to become a better dancer. I want to focus on my technique in jazz and ballet so that I may have the opportunity to move up with the girls that are the same age as I am. Even if I don't receive this scholarship I am still going to work really hard to go to camp. Thank you for this opportunity. Isabella |
