Sincerely, Dotty Hancock Dance Arts Academy Recital DetailsThis week marks the end of regular dance classes for the season. Next week, May 28-31, is picture week. We are closed on Memorial Day. There are no dance classes during picture week. Please come at your scheduled picture time in costume for group and individual photos. The detailed recital note, along with the picture schedule, rehearsal schedule and DVD order forms can be found on the recital page on our website: Spring Recital 2013Rehearsal and both performances will be held at Borah High School's Auditorium. The audience is encouraged to dress for the red carpet for our "Hollywood" themed shows! A photo booth will be set up in the lobby to commemorate the day with $5 photos, a fundraiser for our performance teams. Performance Team AuditionsDancers ages 7-18 are invited to audition for Dance Arts Academy's performance teams on June 4th. The audition fee is $10.Ages 7-10 audition 4:30-6:00 Ages 11-13 audition 6:00-7:30 Ages 14-18 audition 7:30-9:00 Come dressed in fitted dance clothes and hair pulled away from the face. Jazz shoes are recommended. Dancers will warm-up, do across the floor progressions and will learn a short routine to be performed for guest judges in groups. You do not need to prepare a solo. Judges will be looking for performance skills (smiles and high energy), good work ethic and the ability to pick up new combinations quickly. Extra forms can be printed from our website at www.danceartsboise.com/spring-recital-2013Dance Camp ScholarshipsThe Boise Dance Teachers Association offers scholarships for the College of Southern Idaho/Idaho Dance Arts Alliance Dance Camp in Twin Falls. Dancers ages 9-11 can attend for the Just Dance for Juniors camp on July 20th, and dancers ages 12-18 can attend for one or two weeks, July 14-26. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, submit an essay on why you would like to attend dance camp by April 10th to the office. Scholarship winners will be notified the following week. Costumes can be personalized with the dancer's name and can be ordered alone or with the bear. Several costumes are available to choose from, too! Spring is on the way and recital plans are coming together! Summer class and camp schedules will be out in the next week, too! Reminder: We will be closed for Spring Break March 25-30. "Hollywood" recitals June 1stWe are adding a couple new and exciting things to our yearend productions! This week each student should receive information about an ad contest to help with the cost of publishing a studio program book, a eepsake yearbook to highlight the accomplishments of the season! The first prize winner receives free tuition for next year! Please let us know if you have any questions about the contest or the ads for the book. We would also gladly take any photo submissions that may be included in the book that you may have from dance classes or performances from this season. In keeping with the "Hollywood" theme, we encourage the audience to dress up in "red carpet" attire and our performance teams will be doing "red carpet" photos before and after the shows to commemorate the day! DAA Night at the Idaho Stampede Come support our performance teams and our local professional basketball team by purchasing $10 tickets for the March 13th game! Our dancers will be performing during half-time and half of the purchase price of your ticket goes back to help our dancers get to Disneyland this summer where they will dance in two Disney parades and on a Disney stage! Recital costumes have been ordered! Please make sure you pay your costume balances as soon as possible- you can always check your account online through the Dance Arts website and log in with your email address. Our "Hollywood" theme recital will be June 1st at Borah High School. There will be two performances, 2:00 and 5:00, and the recital assignments will be posted next month. We will do our best to keep siblings together, but students in multiple classes will likely be in both shows. Nutcracker costumes need to be turned in as soon as possible! The show was great and the staff is very proud of all dancers who participated! DVD's can still be ordered for $15.00 at the office if you would like a copy of this year's performance. Freeze Frame Performance The annual Freeze Frame shows are this Saturday, January 26th! Show times are 12:30 and 7:00, held at Mountain View High School. Freeze Frame is a fundraiser put on by the Boise Dance Teachers Association (BDTA) to raise scholarship funds to send dancers to dance camp in the summer and to put on the fall workshop which is held at no cost for our dancers to attend! DAA has invited the Mini, Junior, and Senior performing teams as well as the Advanced Lyrical and Advanced Hip Hop classes to perform in the matinee (12:30) show. Tap 3, Boys Hip Hop, and all Hippety Hop classes will be performing in the evening (7:00) show. Tickets are $6.00 and will be available at the door. BDTA will also be collecting food for the Idaho Food Bank. A $1.00 discount will be given on Freeze Frame t-shirts for any food donation. DAA Night at the Stampede March 13 Come see our performing teams dance at half time at the Idaho Stampede game on March 13! Tickets are $10.00 and can be ordered at the office or from any DAA performance team member. A portion of the tickets sold goes back to the dancers who are raising funds for a trip to Disneyland this July, where they will perform on stage and in two Disney parades! New Adult Classes Beginning in February we will be offering four week sessions of adult classes on Wednesdays at 8:00. A different style of dance will be taught each month starting with ballet in February and jazz in March. Let Tina know in the office if you are interested in signing up! Birthday Parties Is your child celebrating a birthday soon? Come celebrate with us! Our birthday parties are perfect for ages 3-12 and include 10 guests for $125. Additional guests are $10 each. The parties can have a ballet dance party or hip hop theme. Guests will dance for one hour and there will be a half hour for treats and opening gifts. Contact the office to schedule your party!
Happy New Year from Dance Arts Academy! Greetings! I hope you are having a great holiday break! Remember that dance classes resume the week of January 7th and all Nutcracker costumes can be turned in when you come to class that week.
Costume deadlines approaching Spring recital costumes will be ordered next week! If you are planning to make any changes to your dance schedule- please let us know ASAP. Any changes (adding/dropping/changing classes) made after January 7th may result in costume charges that you will not use. Costume companies do not allow cancellations or returns on costumes once they have been ordered since they are made to order and can take up to four months to receive.
Last chance for new registrations Since costumes are in process of being ordered, it is also the last chance for this season for new registrations in most dance classes. Registration will be closed as of February 1st. If you, or a friend are interested in joining a class- don't delay! We would love to have you start the week of January 7th!
New sweatshirts now available to order Have you seen out new logo? It has made its debut on the new sweatshirts now on display in the lobby. If you would like to order one of the hoodies there is a sign up sheet at the office. They are $32 and we will turn in the order on January 14th.
The holiday season is upon us! I have a few reminders and updates for you! Our Nutcracker performance is coming up quick on December 22nd at 4:00 in the Mountain View High School Auditorium. We still have slots for a few more volunteers, so if you are interested, you can sign up at the office. We will also be needing an over-sized Christmas tree for the show, so if anyone has any connections on getting a nice, large tree for us that we only need for one day- please let Tina or Dotty know! The lost and found box was over-flowing again! Please check to see if you may have any items that were left behind. Anything left unclaimed will be donated December 8th. Please remember that dance shoes are only to be worn in the studio- DO NOT wear your dance shoes outside (including hip hop sneakers)! This damages our dance floors and wears out your shoes faster. Hip Hop dancers- please wear clothing that is suitable for dancing in- no jeans! Classes are currently being measured for recital costumes which will be ordered the first week of January over Christmas break). If you anticipate any changes in your dance schedule, please let Tina know. Once costumes are ordered, they cannot be returned or cancelled. DAA will be closed for Christmas break December 24-January 5. Classes resume on January 7, 2013.
Greetings! Please be aware of the studio schedule for upcoming holidays and performances: Dance Arts Academy will be open for classes on Halloween. Students are allowed to wear costumes to class on October 31st. We will be closed for Thanksgiving break November 22-24 (Thursday-Saturday). Our performance time for Festival of Trees is Saturday, November 24 at 1:00 pm at the Boise Centre on the Grove. Check with your instructor to see if your class is participating.
The Nutcracker performance is Saturday, December 22 at 4:00 pm at Mountain View High School. All ballet classes (ages 4-up) will be performing.
We will be closed for Christmas and New Years from December 24-January 5. Classes resume on January 7, 2013. Nutcracker Ballet
Participation fees of $25.00 for the Nutcracker are due with November tuition. This covers the costume rental and two tickets to the performance. If you are unable to participate, please let your instructor and the office know as soon as possible so we can make adjustments to the class choreography and your account. The volunteer sign up sheet is now posted at the office. Please only sign up for one slot per family to allow the opportunity to as many families as possible. Thank you for your support in this annual project to give our students a performance opportunity and for us to give back the the community through donations to the Meridian Food Bank and Toys for Tots.
October tuition and costume deposits Remember that your monthly tuition is due by the 5th of the month. You can pay in the office or online at anytime. Accounts who have opted for auto-pay will recieve a reciept by email on the 5th once your account has been charged. Costume deposits (down payment) for the spring recital of $20 per class have also been posted and are due with October tuition. The balance for costumes will be due January 5th and will be an additional $15-25. Costumes are ordered the first week of January to ensure delivery Nutcracker Preparations Our annual Nutcracker performance will be December 22nd at Mountain View High School. All ballet classes, ages 4 and up will learn a dance in class as part of the production. Class assignments are listed below. The participation fee is $25, due in November. The fee covers the costume rental and two tickets to the performance. Additional tickets will be available for purchase two weeks prior to the performance. We are in need of volunteers for sewing and stage hands the day of the show. Volunteer projects will be posted in a couple weeks. Those who sign up to volunteer do not need to pay the participation fee, but please only one project per dance family. Please let your instructor and the office know if you are unable to participate in the Nutcracker so we can make preparations for costumes and choreography.

There are a couple of exciting events coming up- so please take advantage of these great opportunities! BDTA Fall Workshop Free dance workshop on Saturday, September 29th! The Boise Dance Teachers Association is holding its annual fall workshop on Saturday, September 29th at Sawtooth Middle School for dancers ages 8 to 18. Dancers will take classes from professional dancers/choreographers in jazz, ballet and hip hop. See the posted flier in the lobby to read about these amazing teachers!
Space is limited, so please sign up at the office to reserve a spot. Arrival time is 8:30 am and the workshop will dismiss at noon. Don't miss out on this FREE event! Tap Master Class with Phillip Attmore As seen on So You Think You Can Dance Intermediate and Advanced tap dancers are invited to attend a special tap class with Phillip Attmore on Thursday, October 4th. The intermediate class is from 5:30-6:30 and advanced from 6:30-7:30. The classes will be free to DAA students who are enrolled in tap class. The fee for guest students is $15.00 to be paid at the door. Regular tap classes will not be held that night, so please come to the appropriate level for these special classes. Thank you for choosing us for your dance education! I know many parents have been taking "first day of dance" photos and we would love it if you would like to share them with us! If you read this newsletter, let Tina know in the office and she will enter you in a drawing for a free pair of tights. Dance Arts Academy Back to Dance Open House! August 14, 16, 21, & 23 5-7 pm We can't wait for dance to start again! While you are welcome to come register in person at any of our open house nights, we encourage you to register even sooner online! Some classes are already full and we want you to get into the class of your choice!
